Gulf Island Vistas

This West Coast Modern home in Tsawwassen sits on a steep cliff overlooking the ocean. The owners had lived in their old home on the site for decades and, as retirement neared, wanted to build a unique home that would allow them to entertain friends and family, and maximize their views of the Gulf Islands.

The home’s sleek, modern aesthetic is balanced by the warmth of hardwood open-rise stairs, stone tiling, walnut flooring and custom-made doors. The dining and living room ceilings are paneled with tongue-and-groove hemlock stained to look like walnut.

The owners’ love of natural wood extends to the exterior, which is sheathed in clear cedar siding (no knots) milled from fallen trees at UBC and in the Fraser Valley. The large kitchen also features a prep kitchen, with room for unique appliances such as the owner’s vintage peanut butter maker.

The two-storey plus basement home is outfitted with an elevator. The owners purposefully maintained their privacy by locating their primary bedroom, which has sweeping views of the Georgia Strait, in the main wing of the home, with two guest bedrooms in another wing.

As with all construction projects on English Bluff, Lentel added a geotechnical engineer to the project team to ensure that we maintained the slope’s stability and adhered to the City’s requirements.
