Crescent Cottage Charmer

The owners of this cozy Beach Grove cottage were looking for better flow and the perception of more space. Lentel was brought on board to open up the living, dining and kitchen areas to create a single Great Room that would give the owners more room to entertain.

One of the first steps in the renovation was to transform the flat ceiling into a vaulted ceiling to increase the sense of space. The clients wanted to avoid removing the original roof, and our team had to work carefully to remove the old ceiling while supporting the original, hand-framed roof.

We removed the wood-burning fireplace in the old living room, and partitioned the new Great Room with a gas fireplace faced in architectural cement panels from Matt Concrete. The fireplace created a separate TV-watching area for the owners, and provided support for the roof.

During the renovation we also gave a facelift to the primary bedroom and ensuite. Since the original renovation, the cottage has been sold to the son of another Lentel client – based on the fact they knew we had worked on the house – and we have done further work to increase the flow and functionality of this charming cottage.
